I have enjoyed growing native plants and creating native habitat gardens for the last 15 years. For the last 25 years I have also worked as a botanist and restoration specialist on public lands throughout the Western US, mostly in the sagebrush covered hills of southern Idaho. My work as a botanist gave me an appreciation for the wild creatures who depend on native plants. It also taught me about the ecology and growing requirements of native plants.
I have spent the last 10 years in Idaho sharing that love of Idaho landscapes and native plants with urban partners such as libraries, schools, and private industry. Urban areas, such as Boise, are often set in what was once prime wildlife habitat and within migration corridors for many species.
Landscaping with native species and creating habitat in our neighborhoods can have a profound impact, even if the area planted is small. All these backyard habitats really do add up for animals such as pollinators and wild birds.
And the studies show that they add up for humanity as well. We become more optimistic, healthier and calmer humans when we are surrounded by nature. It’s in our DNA to view nature as beautiful. We are here to bring that beauty to your home or business.
